The city of Newton is located on the Flint River and is located in Georgia's Quail Plantation region. Newton is one of the few areas in Georgia not touched by a federal highway.

According to 2000 Census, the City of Newton had a population of 851 persons. Between 1990 and 2000, the city experienced a population increase of 21.1%, compared to the state growth during this period of 26.4%.
